Did you know that in California, it is a felony fo Did you know that in California, it is a felony for an employer to steal $950 of wages from their employee?
Did you know that Wage Theft and labor trafficking cost California $9 billion a year in uncollected tax revenue, not to mention the loss of workers’ dignity?

Today, for this reason, District Attorney @SummerStephan joined the County of San Diego Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (@sdcountyolse) and Employee Rights Center (@ercsandiego), County Supervisor Vicechair Terra Lawson-Remer (@suplawsonremer)
and California State Labor Commissioner Lilia Garcia-Brower (@ca_laborcommish) to announce the start of the week of action to educate the public about workers’ rights.

Wage Theft is a major problem, and it is important for the County to work together to combat it. We are fortunate enough to live in a place that believes every worker deserves to be paid for their work and we are here to ensure that all employees in San Diego County are treated fairly.

Our Workplace Justice Unit criminally investigates wage theft. Deputy District Attorneys and DA Investigators from our Workplace Justice Unit routinely meet with other County and State agencies to work in partnership to identify cases of wage theft and determine how best to remedy the issue.

The key to helping solve this is to make it safe for employees to come forward to notify us of the problem. In that regard, our office has set up a workplace justice hotline, website and email that citizens can report criminal wage theft abuses to:

San Diego County District Attorney @SummerStephan San Diego County District Attorney @SummerStephan announced today that her office is addressing the intersection of homelessness and crime by leading the effort to develop technology that can quickly locate suitable shelter beds for individuals experiencing homelessness, improving on the process that’s currently in place.

The proposed technology would mobilize a more efficient county response, providing access to comprehensive and centralized information about the capacity, quantity, and availability of shelter beds and services across the county. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted today to clear the way for the DA’s Office to work with Tech Soup and its subsidiary, Caravan Studios, to move forward with the technology development phase of the application that would implement the community design vision already developed.
