The Torch Run kicked off at the Chula Vista Police Department on Tuesday and agencies from all over San Diego County ran relay legs between 1 and 5 miles to move the torch from Chula Vista to Camp Pendleton. Meet Chief of the Appellate and Training Division Linh Lam, who began working at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office in 2006 as a Deputy District Attorney. She is currently the Chief of the Appellate and Training Division, which provides support to our Administration and line deputies, including work in writs and appeals, legal research and analysis, policies, ethics, legislation, legal education and training, and records requests. What inspired you to choose a career in law enforcement/at the DA’s Office?
“My parents were victims of an armed robbery, and their experience with the criminal justice system left much to be desired. It made me realize that representation by people of diverse background in law enforcement is critical to the community’s access to justice. Without people of diverse background at all levels of the criminal justice system, from police to prosecutors to judges, those most in need of justice may not have access to it.”

What is your favorite part of the job?
“I love working with the great people at the DA’s Office. It’s always a good day when I get to work with smart people who do their best to ensure that we protect victims and prevent crime.”

What does Asian American and Pacific Islander Month mean to you/why is it important to you?
“AAPI Month recognizes the history, culture, struggles, achievements, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the United States. Only through this recognition of AAPI and other persons of diverse background can we work towards the goal of equality and equity for all people.”

The fight against fentanyl continues in San Diego The fight against fentanyl continues in San Diego County as the DA's Office joined the U.S. Attorney and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to announce that an unprecedented two-month fentanyl enforcement surge along the southwest border has resulted in the seizure of over 4,000 pounds of fentanyl, 1,700 pounds of fentanyl precursors and more than 200 arrests of alleged smugglers, traffickers and dealers within the Southern and Central Districts of California.

“Operation Blue Lotus represents the kind of exceptional law enforcement and prosecution innovation and collaboration that can effectively impact deadly fentanyl distribution and save lives,” said San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan. “I want to recognize the leadership of the U.S. Attorney and other key partners in bringing this operation forward. This operation yielded an extraordinary outcome that is having a direct impact on public safety. The prosecutions that resulted from this operation are an example of our ongoing commitment to holding dealers and traffickers accountable.”

Meet Administrative Analyst Ronald Agarma, who began working at the San Diego County District Attorney's Office in 2005 as a Student Worker. He is currently an Administrative Analyst III in the Human Resources Division, where he helps coordinate recruitments for various positions within the office and handles other human resources related duties. Read more about what inspired Ronald to pursue career in law enforcement at the DA's Office, below.

What inspired you to choose a career in law enforcement/at the DA’s Office?
“Before I started as a Student Worker at the South Bay Branch, I had a few different jobs within the County and in the private sector. Something that stuck out to me was the camaraderie within that branch. I liked it so much I spent the next 10 to 11 years of my life there. I wanted to spread that feeling throughout the office and was lucky enough to do so by joining the Human Resources team.”

What is your favorite part of the job?
“The people…whether its meeting with new hires to go over paperwork or seeing old coworkers from 15 years ago, I love talking to them all.”

What does Asian American and Pacific Islander Month mean to you/why is it important to you?
“I think about my parents and how they got here. I love asking them to tell me the stories on how things were in the Philippines, how they got here and how they assimilated in this new country. So, I think AAPI Month is a great way to celebrate the different journeys of all AAPI immigrants and citizens and their unique traditions and cultures.”
